Relgious Specialist Jordan

Date: Thursday, November 20, 2008, 1:47 PM I just want to send out an e-mail to my friends to tell you how proud I am of Jordan. Some months back, like 3-4 he took a test to become a religious specialist. He has to go through a very long interview with many Chaplin's of all different religion. and they only interviewed 4 people 4 it. They said he was the only one out of the 4 they were interested in because he did not have to think about his answers and he was very good at eye contact. Lots of questions. They came the hard part studying many religion. and then taking the test which took all these months to get the results back. It was not just the religion. part he had to pass either. He was worried about that too because most of the religion. part was Muslim. Which he did not think it would be. Only 50 percent of the people that took this test passed it, he was one of them. I guess not all were from his ship, was a navy wide thing I do believe do not mark my words. Now when he goes to Iraq in January he will be working with the Chaplin's there, ya which scares me very much, to tears if I think about it to much. Takes him closer to the front. It is what he has wanted since he enlisted so for that I must be proud he is reaching his goals one by one and takes him closer to his biggest goal of going on to college. He is very proud of what he does. And if you are for the war or against it does not matter to me because my son is a very good person doing a good things with his life, and also trying to make things better and bring god to the lives of others no matter who you are. May all of us live in peace here at home while our men and women fight for those whom live in fear all of their lives. Faith

This is my grand daughter on October 30th, the day she turned 2. She loves Care Beares and Elmo. I can not wait to go home and spend some time with her. I might just have to pack her up and bring her back here with me. She just might have a better time with grammy. A long story. Just wanted to post a picture for you all to see.

News About going Back to work

Well I had my doctors appointment at 9 am this morning. She told me I could go back to work If I sit 80% of the time and stand only 20% of the time for now. For some you would find this great not me. My job requires me to stand 100% of the time. I have yet to see if she, my boss, can find anything for me to do, if not they have to continue to pay me Workman's comp. I am so going nuts at home. Doug said he wishes we could afford for me to stay home all the time as the house is clean and I cook and bake all the time. Time to go really check out Tanya's recipes. Only thing is he said he is gaining to much weight. I have to be at this restriction for 3 weeks. I am still in physical therapy which for some dumb reason I like. I am learning new things about ones body and find it interesting and helpful. May be I am just getting to board!! Who knows. My physical therapies is a hoot. So anyway she, the doctor said I may end up having, in the long run,to find a desk job. She said I will never be able to do any heavy lifting anymore. She did move me up to lift in 20 pounds. Guess that Means no carrying myself around. LOL just kidding. So now I just wait for a call from my boss to see if she can find something for me or if I wait for the doctor to release me for more to do.

My dearest friend, Carolyn!!

I learned yesterday that my dearest friend, Carolyn, is back in Henderson, after a year. She left and moved to TN to be with family when she found out she had cancer. I was devastated. All to much I have see what cancer has done to my own family and yes both my grandmothers made It through it but they did not have the worst of forms, but others in my family were not so lucky. The worst of this as close as Carolyn and I are she would not tell any of us what kind it was. Not until 3 months ago did she reveal to me what kind she had. No not breast. It was a kind that most people have very little chance of recovering from. Well she did and I could not be happier for her. She may be coming back to work here to and for me. We made an awesome team when she was here and then I worked for her. She was my maid of honor when Doug and I got married. Friends like her are hard to find. We kept in touch by letters while she was gone. She even sent me a t-shirt from a restaurant her daughter-in-law owned and operated, and where Carolyn was working part time. I might squeeze the crap out of her when I finally see her in person. I am going to try and make it up to the store today when I know she is there to talk to my boss. She is far to precious to me. When I can find my wedding DC I will post a picture of this fine lady.
I talked to my dear Carolyn for a little over an hour tonight. It was so good to hear her voice and not just read letters and to here her tell me about her clean bill of heath and wanting to come work with me. I called my boss right away and left her a message to let her now she was back and would be in for her job back. I also reminded her of her promise of giving her her job and as many hours as she wanted.

MT. Charleston

One the last day of Doug's vacation we went to Mt. Charleston
It was so beautiful and peaceful. It was like being back in WI. We took the dog with us so that he could enjoy being out of the house too. This place is an hours drivew from here. There are so many different trails to take that we are going to go back with the dog and try out more trails. I want to go in the winter because there is snow up there just like back home. The temperatures are like back home too. Who would think that one hour would make such a difference. I hope you enjoy my photos.

Colorado River Happenings

It started out so wonderful. We got put into the water below the Hoover Dam and found the wonderful hot spring in the picture you saw. When you put your back against the rocks in some spots it was so hot you could have burnt yourself. I could have stayed in that hot spring all day. Would have been better without clothes or a swim suit. Then when we finally left there I got into the canoe and Doug was going to get in and push us out and he flipped the canoe and our $400.00 camera is now shot. After we get that all back together we go a little father down and saw 5 awesome mountain sheep. How they can walk on those steep slopes is amazing. I wanted so bad to take their pictures but no camera. I took some with my phone but they did not turn out, to far away. So anyway this was an unguided trip, we did not wanted a guided one. It was so beautiful. You could see to the bottom of the river the fish were jumping it was awesome. Doug was so impressed by the jumping of the fish. He grew up in the city and this was new to him. We tried to feed them some bread but yeah guess it was not good enough they like the natural stuff. The water was 54 degrees. They told us that before we left and that if the boat should flip leave it and worry about ourselves. Then the wind started to pic up which made it had to paddle. Paddling against the wind is not fun. We stopped at a few little spots to enjoy the view and eat the lunch we packed. One little lone duck joined us for lunch so we feed her too. After this there was nothing but straight up rock and the wind kept picking up. Finally a good storm blew in. Even I was worried. Doug was Like this is not safe. We paddled over to the rock and we were going to try and hold onto some brush sticking out but it had huge thorns sticking out of it. The waves were 2 and a half feet and wind were forty mile an hour they told us. When we finally did make it back they were getting ready to send the rangers for us. They said we should be on TV for making it back in a canoe. They said there were people with guides in kayaks flipping over and they were tying them together to keep every one safe. Here is one of my burns after it popped a few days later from my sun burn.

Why I have Not Been On

I have been in the mood nor have I had the energy to be on the Internet. I have been bombarded with migraines again. I have been going to the doctors and they even sent me to a neurologist. I am on more pain meds than I care to count. No they can not all be taken at the same time. I have to try one then the other then they other. If it is really bad to start with, which is easy for me to tell, I take the morphine right away. Last week Wednesday I was tested for a brain tumor. I was so terrified. I went a whole week before the test. I remember it was a Monday when they told me they were going to test me for it. It took the whole day to sink in. By that night I freaked out. I never even said a word to my husband. I broke down and called my little sister, Chris. After talking to her I then told my husband. I never told my sons about it because I did not want them to worry after everything we have been through as a family. I kept picturing what my little cousin Cloin went through. I knew I would never in a million years have the courage he did as young as he is and the age I am. He had more strength than I have in my whole huge fat body. I got the results today and my MRI was normal. My three angels were watching over me. Did you ever wonder where I got this email faith.angels.3 that is where: Breanna, Colin, And Triniti. Now the thing is to find out how to control this pain. They are trying a medicine called Topipax which I will take daily. So by the time I am finally up to the dose they want lets hope it works because I am not a fan of morphine. Today was the first time I took that in a week in a half to two weeks.

Feet For Sheri

I had the day off on Saturday and decided I wanted to get a pedicure. No big deal. They soak your feet file the calluses, toe nails, and paint your toe nails if you so choice. I get there and I get someone different and he asked me if I wanted a deluxe pedicure. I had no idea what he was talking about. He said it was $10.00 more. I figured what the heck I have not had my nails done in two month. Letting the nails breathe as I have had french nails on for 8 months straight. I will wait a few more weeks for that. Besides I have a hard time saying no. So he proceeds to put this green goop all over my legs from the knees down. It had the smell of spearmint and felt like it after awhile. Getting off the subject it is kind of like the pleasure-enhancing tingling lubricant. Has the same smell and great sensation. Ok I know TMI. Then he put hot towels on both legs and wrapped them. He then worked on scrubbing my feet and messaging them. Then he took off the towels and put this yellowish, large fish egg looking stuff on my legs. It was very rough. He then painted my toes the color I wanted. It was awesome. Very relaxing! The chair messages your neck and back while this is being down. My legs were so very smooth and still are. It takes the dry skin off and moisturizes your skin. Needless to say I will be doing the deluxe from now on. Sheri you really should try it. Only thing is when I had my nails done the very few time I did back in Wisconsin they never stayed on for more than week. You can not pry these babies off. You need a jack hammer. They tried to take one off before soaking it and tore into my nail bed. Never went there again. Here is the end result. King was jealous so I had to put his nails in here too.

I no longer have the huge ugly heels I had. Most off that is to the ped-egg it really works. I do let them razor them once and a blue moon but not very often. Watch for my next blog on Roaches vs mosquitoes and flies.

Happy 4th

I have been home and off work all week with a wonderful migraine. They gave me a double shot of morphine Tuesday and the dumb thing came right back. The right side off my face was going numb and everything. Well I went and saw my doctor and she has me on morphine pills until I can get in to see a Neurologist. I have not had migraines for over a year and a half and all of a sudden they are back and worse than ever. Ya just an obstacle to over come. I am doing great today thanks to the wonder drug Morphine.
I hope you all had a wonderful day. I have enjoyed my day cleaning and relaxing. I just finished making Tapioca Pudding for Doug. He like the homemade kind. Ya I spoil him. I wish my Jordan was here for the 4th. I really miss my little boy/MAN. I love when he calls me. We talk daily at least 3-4 times. Sometimes even more. All his buddies go out drinking and that is just not his thing so he will call and say ya mom I am bored.
I am talking to Steve right now. He just moved to Hinlessin MN that is 15 minutes away from Hinkley. He is trying to get a job at a Casino as a Black jack dealer if not that a cook. Now he is 45 minutes away from his daughter, Nevaeh. Poor little girl, she really adores her daddy.
Bobby called me the other day and still plans on coming out to see what it is like out here and see if he wants to live here.
I sent all my nieces and nephews a package. I had sent huge party poppers to them and my sister opened the one and it flew out all over her. She thought I planned it to do that and I did not it must have gotten to ruffed up in its travel. She had confetti every where so I laughed at that. Well Happy 4th to everyone.

Update o King

We got the results back from the lumps. Of coarse my husband neglected to tell me until tonight and then looked at me and said Oh yeah the doctor called they are malignant. I got tears in my eyes and he said just kidding. I kicked him and told him that that was not funny. I actually kicked him 3 or 4 times. I should have known from his voice because King is everything to him. Tomorrow King will get his stitches out and hopefully that cone off. He is used to it now but when we are going down the steps he pushes you with it. Not softly either. He knocks everything over too now. He is a big ox anyway and this only makes it worse. I will be more glad for me than him.

Being Deployed/Jordan

Jordan as a baby in his little Navy outfit. Must been in his blood!! Nevaeh's baptism thaks to him.

Kicking back on leave in March.

Ships good service award he is getting here from the captain in May 2007.

Jordan sent me an e-mail telling me that they are ready to be deployed in a moments time and looks like it could be North Korea, this coming November, because they are a nuke air craft ship. Their first plans were for January 09 same place as last year but this could really change things. Read the article below. I got the article of his ships web page.

By Mass Communication Specialist 3rd Class Jonathen E. DavisUSS John C. Stennis Public Affairs
USS JOHN C. STENNIS, at sea – USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) received an outstanding on their Final Evaluation Problem (FEP) June 16 when the crew demonstrated they could defend the ship and combat casualties in multiple, complex scenarios.
FEP is a two-day, graded event that tests ships’ abilities to conduct combat missions, survive complex casualties and sustain support functions.
“Stennis hit this one out of the park! The crew set their sights on FEP, with minimal preparation time and achieved a record score that will be extremely hard to beat,” said Stennis Executive Officer Cmdr. David Burnham. “This crew crushed every FEP score in recent carrier fleet history.”
Afloat Training Group (ATG) Pacific, embarked as trainers and evaluators, has been scrutinizing Stennis’ abilities since departing San Diego May 26.
“The John C. Stennis crew was evaluated on their ability to perform operationally and their ability to survive at sea,” said ATG Team Leader Lt. Regina Rogers. “The crew is trained and prepared to respond to any casualty, in the event it comes their way.” To ratchet things up even more, ATG introduced FEP’s Total Ship Survivability Exercise (TSEE). At the peak of casualties and related stress, ATG wanted to determine if Stennis had the ability to survive and recover from significant battle damage.
TSEE combined cumulative casualties to deliver life-like scenarios to Stennis. General quarters (GQ), at-sea fire party and medical drills tested and improved Sailors’ skills. Just like each link in an anchor’s chain must be strong, FEP and TSEE demanded strong performances from Stennis’ individual teams and departments.
The at-sea fire party was evaluated on each of their respected abilities to combat fires, equipment knowledge and provide assistance to personnel casualties. Sailors’ skills were put to the test in repair lockers as they demonstrated their damage control and first-aid knowledge. Stennis’ medical department assisted the wounded during mass casualty drills in the hangar bays and in repair lockers during the evaluation. Combat systems department conducted equipment casualty scenarios on systems like radar, communications and navigation. Operations department created a simulated hostile environment to test Stennis’ ability to defend against missile, small boat and enemy aircraft attacks. Weapons department was assessed on proper procedures of using the .50-caliber guns gun, rules of engagement and communication.
Stennis Combat Direction Center Officer and Integrated Training Team Coordinator Cmdr. Brian Albro said he attributes the success of FEP to every Sailor's skill and knowledge demonstrated during the event.
“I’m always impressed with the crew of John C. Stennis, how we come together and work as a team,” said Albro. “When new challenges were piled on by the training teams, the crew stepped up and performed. You can see it across all the GQs we have done; their performance has increased and continues to be superb.”
FEP is part of the Navy’s commitment to maintain warfighting readiness and to develop its Sailors, essential elements of America’s maritime strategy. The successful completion of FEP shows that Stennis has the solid foundation of unit-level operating proficiency needed to support U.S. interests at home and abroad.
